8. Please describe the current state of this technology’s commercialization.

Provide information on the commercial availability of the technology, such as quantitative information on the number of units deployed, the number of customers and the fields or industries in which this technology is being used. (Limit 2500 characters)

Open Energy demonstrates two proven technologies, combining them to communicate energy dashboard information more effectively. Energy Dashboards combine smart metering and Internet technologies to provide real-time data on energy use. Their success is based on the premise that real-time feedback drives behavior change and improves operational efficiency.

Costly proprietary energy dashboards are already in use to enable energy reduction competitions, showcase real-time building performance and green building features, and empower occupants to become active participants in energy management. Sustainability teams from major corporations, governments, universities and K-12 public schools use energy dashboards as an effective communication tool that creates transparency. However, the energy dashboards commercially available are expensive to implement and require excessive time for users to utilize since they are displayed on a dedicated site rather than as integral parts of existing sites.

BACnet has been under active development since June of 1987 when the first meeting of Standard Project Committee 135P (SPC 135P) took place at the ASHRAE Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1995, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 135 was published and BACnet was officially born! The next year ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee 135 (SSPC 135) was formed to interpret, maintain and extend the standard. The BACnet Committee remains active today. Almost 800 companies worldwide have registered with the committee for BACnet Vendor IDs to develop BACnet products. Over 100 of these companies have had their products tested by tested by a recognized BACnet® Testing Laboratory.

Drupal is an open source content management platform powering millions of websites and applications. It’s built, used, and supported by an active and diverse community of people around the world. Drupal is used to build everything from personal blogs to enterprise applications. Thousands of add-on modules and designs let you build any site you can imagine. The BACnet module for Drupal is one of these add-on modules and specifically targets the BACnet Web Services features in BACnet Advanced Operator Workstations to draw real-time data out of BACnet systems to display thru Drupal applications.

BACnet and Drupal are being used in all fields of industries. They are increasingly sought after items to overcome cost, interoperability and availability issues of alternative competing technologies.
